I often enjoy reading Tiernay Lab, a blog on the NY Times website. A posting by John Tierney on 2/15, entitled Good Climate Policy, Bad Politics, is closely related to the subject we'll begin discussing in class on Wednesday. Here Tierney discusses two proposed solutions, a carbon tax and a cap-and-trade system, to Global Warming and their popularity in Washington. According to Tierney, unfortunately the "better policy" (a carbon tax) is receiving less support from politicians. However, it's most interesting to read the variety of opinions that readers have in their blog responses. Through this form of scientific communication, one gains many different perspectives on a single issues and many different voices are heard. Tierney's article is no longer taken as the only "truth." Other bloggers elaborate on information that he left out and a clearer picture of the issue is seen. However, it is hard to know how credible the various sources are.
