A Technology Consortium Plans a Wireless Network

After initially reading this article, I thought about the power of the dollar to divide just as quickly as it unites. This article discusses a meeting of the minds between communications names such as Sprint, Google, and Comcast to name a few to launch wireless networks across the country. These networks not only focus on speed of transmitting data, but on the scope of what that can be processed such as videos and ads. Moreover, the creation of such a network involves sensitive compromise between companies brought together to beat their rival such as Verizon. (They can’t beat that Verizon service in Ithaca right?) As the author comments, “The partnership of such fundamentally different companies underscores the convergence of Internet, entertainment and telecommunications services.” Questions about such networks ranging and reliability are raised, but I further question whether these plans promote technological advancement or dependency on technology as a crutch for individuals.
